The Multicultural Mental Health Resource Centre (MMHRC) is an information centre, website and network designed to improve the delivery of mental health serivces to a culturally diverse population. Given the high levels of diversity in Canadian communicities, it is not always possible to have sufficient local expertise in the form of bilingual, bicultural practitioners or culture brokers. The MMHRC website provides information on culture and mental health for clinicians, clients and families, community organizations and policy m akers. Resources available through MMHRC include: information for clients and families on mental health problems and treatments in multiple languages; guidelines for clinicians on culturally appropriate assessment, treatment and prevention for common mental health problems; training materials for cultural competence; and access to interpreters, culture brokers and cultural consultation. The MMHRC is a project of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
The MMHRC maintains and e-mail listserv to promote knowledge exchange in the area of culture and mental health services. Researchers, health professionals, community organizations, policy m akers, and others interested in cultural aspects of mental health will find a national forum and community of scholars and practitioners in multicultural mental health. This is a useful place to post questions, sh are information on resources and find information related to multicultural mental health.
